Staff Pets By: Dani Grandinetti November 6, 2024

Matilda isn’t the only critter in our librarians’ lives! Read on to learn all about the pets of the North Liberty librarians.

Elinor

Elinor, or Her Majesty Queen Elinor as she is known to her fans, is far too important to acknowledge any peasants in her home. She has royal duties to keep her busy, such as drinking out of the sink, supervising the local birds, and biting her pet human. Elinor belongs to Corrie.

Greg

Greg is a large and sweet boy who loves to cuddle. Greg has a total of three teeth that he uses to their full potential. His favorite activities include scratching the furniture, hanging out with his human friends, and chasing moths. Greg belongs to Dani.

Harper

This is Harper. Harper likes napping in the sun and lying in clean laundry. She dislikes snowmen and robot lawnmowers. She has half of her teeth but doesn’t let that stop her from getting her favorite human food, lettuce. Harper belongs to Asher.

Fiona, June, and Hank

We call this an ironically accurate representation of parenting. Fiona (14-year-old chihuahua) ignores her younger siblings, Hank (5-year-old chihuahua) and June (3-year-old tortoiseshell) as they play. Fun fact: June was adopted from Last Hope Animal Shelter after Melanie fell in love at the library’s Cat Café. Fiona, Hank, and June belong to Melanie.

Poppy

This is Poppy! She is turning 9 on December 10th and is the sweetest little lady you’ll ever meet. Sitting in the window is her favorite pass time but she also loves napping on the floor and hanging with her human. Poppy is a Certified Yapper™. Poppy belongs to Morgan.

Harley and Mika

Harley  (the smaller pup with the white face) is a Boston Terrier/Beagle mix also sometimes known as a Boggle. He’s a sweet old boy of 10 who came to live with us when he was just 8 weeks old. He was born with a huge overbite so the breeder gave him to an animal rescue, where we got him. He loves to sit regally in the back yard until he gets bored and then he tries to sneak over to the neighbors to snoop. He loves walks and will sit down stubbornly outside the door to get you to take him. He grunts loudly if we don’t immediately respond when he wants a cuddle.

The happy brindle-colored American Pitbull is Mika. She thinks she’s a 65-pound lap dog and wants constant attention from everyone and she thinks every dog wants to be her best friend. If she doesn’t greet us at the door with a toy in her mouth, we know she’s been in mischief. Then she’s waiting around the corner with guilt in her eyes (and the toy). We have had her since she was a pup and she’s seven now. She moved out not long ago to live with our daughter (her other owner). She still visits almost every week or we’d miss her. She puts her whole body into her wag, so she looks like a seal. Watch out, her tail is like a whip!

Harley and Mika belong to Jennie.

Stella, Penny, and Ed

We enjoy food, snacks, and chewing on things in general.  Our favorite hobbies are chasing each other around while the humans try to sleep, leaving as much fur around the house as possible, and laying on people when they try to nap.  Oh, and eating snacks – did we mention how much we enjoy that? We belong to Nick.

Cinnamon & Violet

Cinnamon (left) and Violet (right) are sisters who get along occasionally. Cinnamon is aloof and loves to cuddle on her own terms, whereas Violet is the snuggliest cat alive and loves to be held like a baby. They’re both very vocal and earn their keep by killing bugs that make it into the house. Cinnamon and Violet belong to Alexa.

P.S. Fun fact – Cinnamon was named after a song! What song do you think it was?

Luna

Luna is a sleek, active girl who is super curious. She loves to channel her inner panther and can often be found perched on top of cabinets, the refrigerator, or even up in our basement ceiling (it’s a drop ceiling and she somehow finds her way in). Lately, Luna is has been plotting her escape to the outdoors so she can take her revenge on the neighborhood squirrels.  When she’s not being a total hellion, she loves to cuddle in your lap and trap you for a few hours. Luna belongs to Kari.

Darlington

Darlington is a goofy young man of one and half years. He is a handsome, long haired, tuxedo cat with the cutest little paws.  His favorite hobbies include sleeping, running around at one in the morning, and destroying his mom’s things. Darlington belongs to Zoe.

Ella and Peri

Ella (the left hot dog) is most likely an alien visiting Earth to do some reconnaissance. She loves to sleep by her human and hiss at her adopted sister, Peri. Peri (short for Perihelion, the right hot dog) is definitely an alien. Found on the highway and now living the high life, she loves sneaking into the shower and licking random people. Ella and Peri belong to Madison.

Aidan and Lexi

This is Aidan and Lexi! Aiden (left) is a 9 year old Kerry Blue Terrier who loves neck scratches, carrots, and windy walks.  He is a sweetie with a big heart who’s goal in life is to get the most rubs ever.  While he is slowing down a bit, he still has tons of energy and enjoys running around the backyard with Lexi after balls, and keeping guard of the house.

Lexi (right) is a 1 year old Bernadoodle who enjoys laying on napping humans, chewing on toys and exploring anything new.  She is still quite curious about everything, and loves smelling everything she can, especially on walks.  She and Aidan have become friends in the short time they’ve known each other and enjoy their playtime and naptime together.

Aidan and Lexi belong to Claire.

Maisie

Maisie is missing a fang, so sometimes her lip gets stuck on her tooth and she looks a little silly. When she first came home she was really shy, but now she immediately greets anyone who walks through the door. Maisie enjoys being nosy by looking out windows, playing hide and seek, and yelling at everyone when she isn’t getting enough attention. Maisie belongs to Haley.
