Diversity Kits Now Available for Checkout!

Deandrea White, Pearson’s Customer Meetings & Events Manager, was presented with this wonderful idea by a community member who thought Pearson School Assessment would be the perfect partner for this community project. Pearson’s mission is centered around helping people make progress in their lives through learning, and has a particular focus on diversity, equity and inclusion. The kits are centered around celebrating and appreciating people of color.

The “Appreciation” kit is aimed at white families and is filled with anti-racist children’s literature as well as books celebrating diversity. The “Celebration” kit could be for everyone but would focus on lifting Black characters and celebrating Black Boy Joy and Black Girl Magic.

Racial and social equity have long been central to the role of public libraries. The North Liberty Library seeks to create a welcoming environment of diversity and inclusion. We’re excited to serve as a community partner with Pearson School Assessment to help circulate the diversity kits in our community and, in doing so, to contribute to celebrating and appreciating diversity.
